Public Notice: Site sampling at 4K Industrial Site
Summary
The week of May 4, 2026, EPA will be on-site at the 4K Industrial Park in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to collect sediment, soil and groundwater samples.
In 2014, Austin Master Services leased a portion of the 4K site to process shale fracking waste, which may contain a range of chemicals and radioactive waste. EPA will collect samples from waste generated by Austin Master. Other waste present at the site, including legacy contamination, will be addressed under the existing Resource Conservation Recovery Act program.
The sampling follows the Hazard Ranking System process, which will help determine if further investigation is needed.
Residents may observe EPA personnel and contractors working around the site. EPA sampling may take place on both private (on-site) and public property. EPA asks members of the public to keep a safe distance from the work crews to not interfere with operations.
EPA will share sampling data on our website once it is available.
