Columbia River Basin Fish Contaminant Survey 1996-1998

The Columbia River Basin Fish Contaminant Survey presents the results of an assessment of chemical pollutants in fish collected throughout the Columbia River Basin in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, and the potential risks from consuming these fish.

The survey was designed by a multi-agency group including the Columbia River Inter-tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC), Washington Departments of Ecology and Health, Oregon Departments of Environmental Quality and Health, Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation, Yakama Nation, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Nez Perce Tribe, U.S. Geological Survey, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Sample collection took place between 1996 and 1998 with the help of CRITFC’s member tribes and staff of federal and state agencies. Chemical analyses were completed in 1999 by EPA and commercial laboratories.
