The webinar offers an opportunity to learn about how enforcement and compliance assurance activities are essential to EPA’s mission  protecting human health and the environment. This training also includes specific information on Clean Air Act Inspections happening in the Augusta, GA area this spring.

About the webinar

This training helps the public understand how EPA, states and delegated Tribes conduct inspections, and enforce federal environmental laws. The training is for anyone who wants to learn about EPA’s enforcement and compliance assurance programs.

The training is presented by EPA inspectors.  Participants may ask those who actively inspect facilities real-world questions.

The training includes introductory information and is covered in a series of short, 15-minute sessions that answer question such as:

  1. What does EPA mean by enforcement?
  2. What happens during an inspection of a facility?
  3. What happens if EPA finds something wrong?
  4. How does EPA ensure problems with facilities are fixed?
  5. How do you know if your community is impacted by a facility?
  6. How can you communicate your questions and concerns to EPA?
  7. How can you get involved with protecting your community?

What is Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division (ECAD)?

ECAD is EPA’s Region 4’s Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division. ECAD enforcement activities target the most serious water, air, and chemical hazards across the Southeast.  ECAD provides businesses, federal facilities, local governments, and Tribes with tools to help meet environmental regulatory requirements. ECAD works closely with EPA’s Regional Counsel, Criminal Investigations Division, and the Department of Justice to deliver a comprehensive enforcement and compliance assurance program.  

What is National Enforcement Compliance Initiatives (NECI)?

EPA establishes NECI to address the most serious and widespread environmental problems facing the United States. These are updated every 3 years to help focus enforcement resources in priority areas.  Read more about EPA’s current initiatives for 2024 – 2027 at the link above.

What is Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO)?

ECHO is an online tool anyone can access to learn more about enforcement history. 

ECHO, stands for Enforcement and Compliance History Online and, allows users to search for enforcement cases, create maps, and analyze enforcement data. Data is posted to ECHO when enforcement cases are officially concluded.
