LENEXA, KAN. (MAY 12, 2025) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 will host an open house in Olathe, Kansas, on Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The open house will focus on updating the community about the Chemical Commodities Inc. (CCI) Superfund Site and to seek access agreements to residential properties in the area to complete additional vapor intrusion (VI) sampling. This sampling is done at no cost to the homeowner.

EPA Region 7 needs to complete the VI sampling in the VI assessment area to determine if the contaminated groundwater plume has migrated, and if so, where the boundaries of the plume are located. Sampling results will be provided to homeowners, and if contaminants of concern are found above EPA’s action levels, the Agency will install a VI mitigation system, also at no cost to the homeowner.

The CCI open house will be held at:

Olathe Indian Creek Library
16100 West 135th Street
Olathe, KS 66062

In addition to the open house, the Third Five-Year Review for the CCI Superfund Site will begin this year and be completed by September 2026. Completing VI sampling within the site’s boundaries is critical in determining the protectiveness of the site’s remedial design.
