Trenton, N.J. - Yesterday, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 Administrator Michael Martucci engaged with New Jersey’s business, utility, and legal communities to discuss the agency’s environmental priorities and strengthen partnerships across the state - advancing EPA’s goals of permitting reform, cooperative federalism, and cross-agency collaboration to deliver smarter, faster, and more effective environmental protection.

“We’re focused on building bridges — with business leaders, utilities, and legal experts, because environmental progress happens faster and lasts longer when we work together,” said EPA Regional Administrator Michael Martucci.

The day began with a business roundtable hosted by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ). The discussion focused on EPA’s ongoing work in the state, safe drinking water regulations and energy priorities. Regional Administrator Martucci spoke directly with business leaders about collaborating and the agency’s commitment to supporting both economic development and environmental stewardship.

Following the roundtable, Regional Administrator Martucci toured the Carl J. Olsen Water Treatment Plant in Edison, NJ. The plant is operated by the Middlesex Water Company. Joined by Plant Director Mark Theiler, the Regional Administrator viewed the plant’s cutting-edge treatment operations and discussed the company’s response to PFAS in drinking water. Middlesex Water outlined its plans for a new treatment facility to address contamination in the South Plainfield wellfields.

To close the day, Regional Administrator Martucci was the featured speaker at the Steward G. Pollock Environmental American Inn of Court, addressing a gathering of environmental law practitioners from both the public and private sectors. Joined by the New Jersey Bar Association’s Environmental Section, the event provided a forum to discuss evolving legal issues and EPA’s role in enforcing environmental protections while working with regulated communities.
