LENEXA, KAN. (JAN. 28, 2022) – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Live Nation’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, Missouri, with a 2020 EPA Region 7 WasteWise Award.

“Congratulations to Live Nation Entertainment on their well-deserved recognition as a WasteWise Award winner,” said EPA Region 7 Administrator Meg McCollister. “Their dedication to developing a culture of pollution prevention is making a real impact in the community and helps lead the way to a less wasteful future.”

Live Nation’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre has repeatedly proven to be a venue pushing the boundaries on sustainability and focuses on waste diversion in multiple ways, including a textile donation program, composting, and outreach opportunities for both staff and fans. In 2019, the Amphitheatre achieved a waste diversion rate of 60% and donated 1,050 pounds of textiles. The venue has over 15 staff members devoted to waste diversion and green initiatives.

“We’re really proud of the focus the team has had on putting on great shows while also committing to the least amount of waste possible,” said Frank Lopresti, general manager, Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. “We’re working on taking steps that truly impact our world in a positive way, and we’re grateful to the EPA for this recognition.”

Live Nation has taken industry-leading steps toward sustainable practices through its coalition Green Nation, which set major targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and ending the sale of single-use plastics at all owned and operated venues and events. In just a few months, Live Nation has prevented over 2 million plastic water bottles from being sold at venues and festivals through its partnership with Liquid Death Mountain Water.

As one of EPA’s longest-running voluntary programs, WasteWise celebrated its 27th year in 2021. Over the years, WasteWise winners prevented or diverted close to 249 million tons of waste from landfills and incinerators, preventing more than 488 million tons of associated greenhouse gas emissions and saving close to $13.7 billion in avoided landfill tipping fees.

EPA Region 7 is proud to recognize Live Nation Entertainment for their accomplishment.

More information about each WasteWise award winner is available on EPA’s website.
