The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has compiled the Administrative Record (AR) for the emergency response removal action at the Unknown Substance Maple and 31st Street Superfund site in Garnett, Anderson County, Kansas. The AR is the official site file that contains technical documents with respect to response actions at the site. EPA developed this document collection to form a clear understanding of the site.
The spill of a corrosive chemical from a commercial vehicle impacted approximately two miles of roadway starting at the intersection of North Maple Street (US-59) and Park Road (K-31) in Garnett, Anderson County, Kansas. In response to this release, EPA initiated a removal action that included disposal of contaminated waste and treatment of 266 automobiles that had come in contact with the spilled material. The removal action was completed January 13, 2026.
