Public Notice: Ford Road Landfill Five-Year Review
Summary
EPA is conducting a five-year review of the Ford Road Landfill Superfund site on Ford Road in Elyria. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the second five-year review of this site.
EPA’s cleanup of chemical contamination at the abandoned landfill consisted of removal and containment of contaminated soil, planting a vegetative cap over the landfill and treated areas, and placement of a rock barrier along the Black River to prevent erosion. The cleanup also involved constructing a drainage channel to manage stormwater runoff, long-term groundwater and surface water monitoring, and limits on use and access to the site.
