2025 Assessment and EPA Evaluations of 2024-2025 Milestone Progress and 2026-2027 Milestone Commitments
EPA Assesses 2025 Progress (September 14, 2026) – EPA has released its 2025 Chesapeake Bay Progress Assessment and its evaluations of Chesapeake Bay jurisdictions’ 2024–2025 milestones and 2026–2027 commitments, highlighting significant strides made by the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership in restoring the Bay while acknowledging ongoing challenges and opportunities in meeting water quality goals. This progress reflects years of work by farmers, conservation partners, wastewater operators, and state and local governments across the watershed. At the same time, the assessments make it clear that the Bay restoration efforts are not finished, and that continued investment-- particularly in agriculture and developed areas--will be needed to close the gaps.
The Chesapeake Bay Program partnership committed EXIT EPA WEBSITE to have all practices and controls in place to achieve applicable water quality standards for dissolved oxygen, water clarity/submerged aquatic vegetation and chlorophyll-a. Since 2012, the seven states and the federal agencies and later the Conowingo WIP Steering Committee have established short-term goals, called two-year milestones, to help achieve the water quality targets.
