Summary

​EPA Region 8 has released a cleanup study called an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for a non-time critical removal action at Operable Unit 2 and Operable Unit 3 at the site.

​The EE/CA:

  • ​Describes current site conditions
  • ​Evaluates cleanup alternatives and associated costs
  • ​Identifies a preferred cleanup approach to address ongoing releases and reduce risks to people and the environment

​The document is available for pubic review and comment through June 8, 2026.

EPA Region 8 is accepting public comments on a proposed cleanup action for OU2 and OU3 at the Richardson Flat Tailings Superfund site. EPA encourages community involvement and values public input before making a final cleanup decision. 

A 45-day public comment period is open:

  • ​Dates: April 22nd through June 8th, 2026

​During this time, the public may review the EE/CA and submit written comments. All comments received will be reviewed and considered by EPA. 

​After the comment period closes, EPA will:

  • ​Review and consider all public comments
  • ​Select a cleanup alternative
  • ​Document the decision in a CERCLA Action Memorandum
