Region 8 Emergency Management Branch
What We Do: Region 8’s Emergency Management Branch is responsible for a comprehensive range of functions centered around emergency response and preparedness. EMB provides:
- 24-hour response capabilities for oil discharges and hazardous substance and pollutant or contaminant releases in accordance with the National Contingency Plan
- Site evaluations for the National Priorities List
- Support for the Regional Response Team, Regional Incident Coordination Team, and Response Support Corps
- Emergency planning, preparedness, and prevention activities
Spill Reporting
The National Response Center is the designated federal point of contact for reporting all oil, chemical, radiological, biological and etiological discharges into the environment, as well as railroad incidents, anywhere in the United States and its territories. The center will notify the appropriate responders to assist with the reported spill or release. To report an oil spill or chemical release, please contact the NRC at 800-424-8802.

Site Screening
Do you know of a site that may present a hazard to public health or the environment? The public is welcome to submit sites for screening to potentially become removal projects undertaken by EMB staff. To submit a site for screening, please send an e-mail to the Region 8 EMB Site Screening E-mail Box at R8EMB_sitescreening@epa.gov.
When submitting a site for screening, please include (at minimum) the following information:
- Name of Site
- Location
- Key Stakeholders
- Relevant Background/History of Site
- Statutory Requirements
- Photos
- Level of Urgency
Once submitted, the EMB Leadership Team will review the submission and determine whether the site will be added to the branch's projects list.
