Policy notice for use of discrete analyzers under the Clean Water Act (CWA) in Region 4

February 22, 2005

US-EPA, Region 4, LSASD, Athens, Georgia

A memorandum from the Office of Water dated January 27, 2005, was received in the Regions which outlined the recommendations for use of discrete analyzers with approved methods under the CWA. EPA Region 4 staff have reviewed these recommendations and endorsed these recommendations as a measure for consistency across the Region. Because of the variability among the various manufacturers, it is necessary for state and regional auditors to have the information which is outlined in the memorandum prior to going on site. This is needed in order to properly assess the discrete analyzers use in the various laboratories. The information outlined in the memorandum is the minimal information needed. State and EPA Regional auditors may request additional supporting documentation as needed.
