Comprehensive Revision to the U.S. Virgin Islands Air Regulations

EPA Approval Date:
EPA's approval of VI Air Regulations was effective on May 18, 1994.

State Submittal:
SIP revision dated March 20, 1987.

Affected Areas:
Islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Summary:
The U.S. Virgin Islands has made a comprehensive revision to their air pollution control regulations. These revisions replace regulations which contain outdated terminology, replace inappropriate testing procedures and improve the clarity and meaning of the regulations which will improve local and federal enforceability. In addition, the new rule contains lower sulfur content limits in fuel oil along with remodeling the of the primary sulfur dioxide national ambient air quality standard.

New Regulations Included As Part of the SIP:
Title 12, Chapter 9, Subpart 204 sections 20 through 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 33, 35 through 41, and 45 of the Virgin Islands Code, effective January 15, 1987 and Title 12, Chapter 9, Subpart 206 sections 20 through 31 of the Virgin Islands Code, effective January 15, 1987.
