Guidance Documents for Review of UIC Primacy Applications and Program Revisions

EPA Guidance Documents issued in the early 1980s establish the general process for review and approval of UIC primacy program applications and program revisions. Guidance 19, Guidance for State Submissions Under Section 1425 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, applies only to UIC programs approved under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) section 1425. Guidance 34, Guidance for Review and Approval of State Underground Injection Control (UIC) Programs and Revisions to Approved State Programs applies to UIC primacy programs approved under both 1422 and 1425.  Use the links provided below to review these guidance documents and learn more about UIC primacy approval under the different statutes.

Links are also provided for a 1422 UIC regulatory checklist and a 1425 UIC crosswalk template to assist states, tribes, and territories in preparing their primacy application packages.
