West Harbor Soils and Sediment Cleanup Area

EPA divided the Wyckoff-Eagle Harbor site into three cleanup areas (called "operable units"). The West Harbor Soils and Sediment Operable Unit, also called OU3, became contaminated with mercury and other metals from a former shipyard located at the site. Cleanup Status

No further cleanup work is planned for this area.

Sediments in West Harbor that were contaminated with mercury were excavated and disposed of upland, and a clean sediment cap was placed over areas of concern. This work included building a confined disposal facility in intertidal areas next to the former shipyard property.

Regular inspections and monitoring are performed to ensure the remedy remains protective of people and the environment.

This area is now part of a Washington Department of Transportation ferry maintenance facility.
