Public Notice: Proposed Modification to Underground Injection Control Permit for Colville River Unit, North Slope, Alaska
Summary
EPA is proposing to modify the Class I UIC permit AK-1I003-C in response to an application submitted by ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. This permit modification would increase the maximum inner annulus pressure for well CD1-47A from 1,500 pounds per square inch (psi) to 2,000 psi.
Well CD1-47A is an industrial waste injection well supporting the hydrocarbon extraction business operated by ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc., at the Alpine Field on Alaska's North Slope.
The permittee has presented evidence that this increased maximum inner annulus pressure limit is within safe and acceptable operating conditions. To ensure the ability to continuously monitor mechanical integrity, the proposed permit modification includes a requirement that the operator maintain a pressure differential between the tubing and inner annulus.

Class I injection wells are used to dispose of fluids beneath aquifers that could serve as Underground Sources of Drinking Water.
