Modern Meadow Bio-FREED™ Powered by Bio-Alloy™

Modern Meadow is being recognized for developing a more efficient textile dyeing process called Bio-FREED™ Powered by Bio-Alloy™. Using the Bio-FREED™ platform, a bio-based protein foam can dye any type of fiber. This revolutionary process conserves 95% of water compared to traditional dyeing methods, reduces energy consumption by 75%, and utilizes 80% fewer dyes and chemicals. Bio-FREED™ does not require a separate step to fix the dye and requires one or even no washes at the end of the dyeing process, compared to 4-7 washes for traditional dyeing.

Summary of Technology:

Bio-FREED™ (Fast Resource Efficient Enhanced Dyeing) is a technology platform powered by Bio-Alloy™ (a miscible blend of plant-based proteins and biopolymers) designed to help the textile industry reduce its carbon emission footprint significantly by eliminating inefficiencies in dyeing processes. Bio-Alloy™ technology is applied using a foam applicator technology to deliver a precise amount of color to a precise location. Bio-FREED™ is a one-step continuous dyeing process that reduces up to 95% water use, 80% of dyes applied, and decreases energy use by approximately 67% compared to the traditional three-step dyeing processes. Bio-FREED™ textiles can be pre-dyed or post-dyed, (i.e., dyeing garments after they are made), thereby gaining additional environmental and supply chain benefits. The ability to precisely deliver dyeable protein functionality to fiber surfaces is expected to provide a greener path forward in the textile industry.
