Sustainable Features of EPA's National Computer Center in Research Triangle Park, NC

National Computer Center
The National Computer Center (NCC) is EPA's largest central computing service. The programs that the NCC manages provide scientific and administrative computing services to EPA, and customers around the nation and the world.  The NCC facility, which includes many sustainable features, has achieved several awards signifying its great environmental performance.
 
  • Energy Conservation - EPA initiated numerous energy-saving projects, such as "Green" lighting features, including high-efficiency fluorescent lighting, motion sensors, daylight dimming sensors, and manual override switches
  • “Green” Power -  The 100-kilowatt, integrated roof power system, is one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) installations on the East Coast.
  • “Green” Building – A recipient of the Golden Leaf Award of Merit in the Sustainable Properties category, which recognizes the best contributions to the community, with a goal of encouraging better-designed and better-maintained properties. These awards are given for projects that create a sustainable built environment by incorporating green building principles in the planning and development of projects.
  • Water Conservation – The practice of sound water resource management, which emphasizes wise, and efficient use of water.
