U.S. EPA SBIR Company Receives Honor as a Top Ten Innovative Company for Energy by Fast Company Magazine

February 2014 - Recently reported in Fast Company Magazine, Okeanos Technologies, a U.S.  Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program award recipient, is one of the 2014’s top 10 innovative companies for energy. Okeanos, a relatively new company, holds a top ten spot with larger companies like Tesla, GE and Philips. Fast Company Magazine sees them as a company with “a sustainable business model and an ethos of creativity.”

Okeanos is currently in the second Phase of funding from the U.S. EPA SBIR Program to develop a cost-effective process to remove salt from seawater.  As water becomes more scarce, technologies for removing salt (or desalinating) water will become increasingly more important.  Okeanos Technologies has developed an innovative clean energy electronic chip, which uses novel processes to desalinate water much more efficiently than current technologies. 

The U.S. EPA SBIR program currently funds up to $100,000 for Phase I proposals and $300,000, if selected for Phase II for continued development and commercialization of the technology.
