Greenhouse Gas RESTful Data Service

This page is intended for technical users who want to work directly with Greenhouse Gas (GHG) data using Envirofacts web services. Non-technical users can explore and download GHG data using the Greenhouse Gas Search.

Greenhouse Gas data published through Envirofacts is accessible using the Envirofacts RESTful Data Service API. This page explains how to become familiar with GHG data, metadata, and the tools needed to construct API requests. Detailed syntax, parameters, and output options are documented on the Envirofacts Data Service API page.

How to work with Greenhouse Gas data

1) Explore Greenhouse Gas data

Start by reviewing available Greenhouse Gas data using the Greenhouse Gas Search or the Greenhouse Gas Customized Search. These tools allow you to view results online or download data for analysis. Column headers in search results link directly to metadata pages, which are essential when building API queries.

2) Review Greenhouse Gas metadata

Use the Greenhouse Gas Metadata Search Tool to identify tables and data elements available through the API. You can also review the Greenhouse Gas Database Model to understand table relationships and column structure.

Metadata pages include example REST API calls for individual tables, which can be used as templates when constructing your own queries.

3) Build API requests using the Envirofacts Data Service API

Once you have identified the tables and fields you need, refer to the Envirofacts Data Service API documentation for guidance on request syntax, filters, joins, paging rules, and output formats. This documentation applies to Greenhouse Gas data as well as other datasets available through Envirofacts.
