AI Use Case Inventory
Artificial Intelligence Use Case Inventory

Since 2024, EPA has been conducting annual AI use cases data calls from across the agency to gather AI use cases per the Office of Management and Budget's reporting requirements. These are collected in both conceptual phase, to better understand how EPA is thinking about using AI in the future, and with AI exploration or development in progress.
AI Use Case Definition
OMB defined an AI use case as any specific scenario in which AI is designed, developed, procured or used to advance the execution of agencies' missions and their delivery of programs and services, enhance decision making, or provide the public with a particular benefit.
So annually, in late fall/early winter, the agency updates the inventory and then based on the latest OMB Guidance share this on this website. This process is managed by the AI Governance (see related links), and specially by the DGAC subcommittee.
The EPA AI Use Case Inventory is maintained through an ongoing process, which we update publicly to share with the public and other Government agencies.
AI Use Case Inventory Result Lists
EPA provides a list of the results from the AI use case inventory data call for all of our AI projects in compliance with EO 13960 Promoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government.
