Summary

EPA is working on its fourth "Five Year Review" of the environmental cleanup at the Oeser Co. Superfund site located at 730 Marine Drive in Bellingham, Washington.

As long as contaminants remain on site, this cleanup must be reviewed every five years to ensure ongoing protection of human health and the environment. The previous review found that the cleanup remained protective of the environment and people’s health.

Past wood-treating operations that used creosote resulted in soil and groundwater contamination at the site. Creosote contains semi-volatile organic compounds that cause harm to human health and the environment.

The site’s long-term cleanup was completed in 2007, and EPA continues long-term monitoring.

For more information about the site, including past cleanup documents, visit Oeser Co. Superfund site.
