Summary

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to issue an Underground Injection Control (UIC) permit related action, under the authority of the Safe Drinking Water Act and UIC Program regulations, that would authorize Middle Fork Uinta, LLC to construct and operate a Class II disposal well to inject produced water from oil and gas operations in the adjacent area in Uintah County, Utah. The proposed Class II Permit will authorize Middle Fork Energy Uinta, LLC to construct and operate SWD 14-20-722. The proposed injection zone is the Birds Nest Aquifer unit within the Green River Formation. The proposed injection zone is located below the lowermost underground source of drinking water (USDW). The SWD 14-20-722 well will be approximately 3,938 feet deep with the injection zone between 3,426 and 3,863 feet. Calcareous mudstones, marlstones and siltstones of about 333 feet in thickness act as a confining zone above the injection zone.
