Label Review Training: Module 4: Applying the Principles of Pesticide Label Review, Page 15

Section 4: How should I review for accuracy?

Claims

As discussed in Module 3, label reviewers must also evaluate the accuracy of labeling claims to ensure that they are not false or misleading. In the example below, the label claims to prevent fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases of plants; however, it does not mention any specific diseases.

Heads Up Plant Protectant

When a state requested efficacy data to support these claims, they found that the registrant did not have any data for any viral diseases. Although EPA does not usually review efficacy data for nonpublic health-use products, registrants must have data to support efficacy claims, and EPA can ask for it at any time. EPA should have asked for a list or description of the supporting data.

For more information about accurate labeling claims, see Chapter 12 of the Label Review Manual.
