WIPP Dockets

The EPA maintains several Dockets for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) at Regulations.gov. A Docket, which is an electronic folder, is a collection of documents related to rulemaking or nonrulemaking actions that are published by the U.S. Office of the Federal Register. As EPA reviews information, including public input relevant to the WIPP's safety, it is placed in EPA's official Docket in Washington, DC and informational Dockets in Carlsbad, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2024-0309: A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the 2024 Planned Changed Request for two replacement panels at the WIPP.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2019-0534: A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the 2019 Compliance Recertification Application and decision.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2014-0609: A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the 2014 Compliance Recertification Application and decision.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2013-0684: A rulemaking docket that is specific to a 2014 final rule modification regarding 40 CFR Part 194 and the WIPP panel closure design.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2013-0293: A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the 2012 Biennial Environmental Compliance Report.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0330: A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the 2009 Compliance Recertification Application and decision.

Other documents available relate to waste characterization, inspections, audits, communications, and other oversight documents from the early 2000s.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2004-0374: (Legacy Docket A-92-56): A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to the compliance criteria related to spent nuclear fuel, high-level and transuranic radioactive wastes.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2002-0061: (Legacy Docket A-93-02): A rulemaking docket that is specific to EPA’s oversight activities leading up to the final 1998 certification decision.

EPA-HQ-OAR-2001-0012: (Legacy Docket A-93-02): A nonrulemaking docket that contains documents related to EPA's oversight activities since the 1998 certification decision. This docket includes a range of documents from Inspections of the WIPP site and Waste Generator Sites; QA and Waste Characterization Inspections; Biennial Environmental Compliance Reports (BECRs); Planned Changed Requests (PCRs) and Planned Change Notices (PCNs); copies of communications between EPA and U.S. Department of Energy; and other miscellaneous documents relating to oversight.
