Fingerprint Analysis of Contaminant Data: A Forensic Tool for Evaluating Environmental Contamination

The objective of this paper is to demonstrate that FALCON is a quantitative, defensible fingerprinting process. A description of the stepwise FALCON technique is provided in Section 2.0. Examples are presented to illustrate the range of situations in which fingerprinting can be applied to characterize the occurrence and distribution of environmental contaminants. These examples were developed using routine monitoring data obtained from a variety of ongoing site characterization and monitoring programs.
