Public Hearing on EPA's MATS for Power Plants: Proposed Reaffirmation of the Appropriate and Necessary Finding
EPA will hold a virtual public hearing on February 24, 2022, to provide the public the opportunity to present comments and information on the Agency’s proposal to reaffirm the scientific, economic, and legal underpinnings of the 2012 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) for power plants, which require significant reductions of mercury, acid gases, and other harmful pollutants. This action would revoke a 2020 finding that it is not appropriate and necessary to regulate coal- and oil-fired power plants under Clean Air Act (CAA) section 112. This proposal would ensure that fossil-fuel fired power plants continue to control emissions of toxic air pollution, including mercury.
Registration to speak at the hearing is closed. A list of pre-registered speakers is below.
- Date of hearing: Thursday, February 24, 2022
- Time: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time
