EPA Cleanups: GE-Pittsfield/Housatonic River Site

Public Comment, Meetings and Events for the GE-Pittsfield / Housatonic River Site

On this page:

Opportunities for Public Comment

EPA is accepting public comments during a formal comment period on the changes in the Proposed Revised Remedial Action from the 2016 Permit.  These changes are noted in redline/strikeout text in the Draft Revised 2020 Permit.

The comment period is currently slated to run from July 14 through August 28, 2020.  During the formal comment period, EPA will accept written comments via mail, email, and fax.  Additionally, verbal comments may be made during the formal Public Hearing scheduled for Wednesday August 26, 2020, during which all offered comments during the hearing will be recorded.

Closed Public Comment Periods

While there are no formal or informal public comment periods for many of GE's submittals pursuant to the GE-Pittsfield/Housatonic River, it is EPA's practice to accept comments from the public throughout the entire investigation and cleanup process. Interested persons and organizations are invited to submit comments at any time on the wide variety of inspection, monitoring, site analysis, characterization, work plans, and other technical reports submitted by GE to EPA on an ongoing basis. These current documents can be found under the "What's New" link on this website. The listed documents are available on-line and are also sent to the Public Information Repositories to give the public access to all information on Consent Decree activities. EPA typically responds to GE's documents after 45 days of receipt; therefore, public submits should be submitted within 45 days of the date of the document.

If additional documents are subject to formal or informal public comment periods, the comment period will list here and notice will be sent out to the Citizens Coordinating Council.

Comments may be submitted by mail, email or fax to Kelsey O'Neil, EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, as indicated below or individuals can ask questions or make verbal comments at the Citizens Coordinating Council meeting.
