Rule Summary

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is establishing a final rule for implementing the 2008 ozone national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) (the ‘‘2008 ozone NAAQS’’) that were promulgated on March 12, 2008.

This final rule repeals the 1997 ozone NAAQS and adds anti-backsliding requirements to help smooth the transition between the two standards for nonattainment areas. This rule addresses a range of nonattainment area state implementation plan (SIP) requirements for the 2008 ozone NAAQS.
