MULTIMED Release Notes

This model is distributed by EPA as a legacy model, but no user support is available from EPA.

Version: 2.00 Beta (Second Release)

Corrections & Improvements to Prior Versions

  • Implemented numerous FORTRAN source code changes to correct minor errors and/or problems that occurred during program execution.
  • Recompiled and rebuilt all AIDE library (binary) files (WDMDSN, WDIMEX, STATS, WDMRX, UTIL, ADWDM, WAIDE, ANN, WDM, GRAPH, AIDE, NEWAQT) for version 3.0x using Lahey FORTRAN 32-bit, protected mode compiler, and Phar-lap linker.
  • Updated the following MULTIMED model system user support documentation files: READ.ME, RELEASE.TXT, UPDATE.TXT, ABSTRACT.TXT, RESPONSE.TXT, FILELIST.TXT, and TERM_DAT.TXT.
  • Updated INSTALIT/MediaBuilder code and logic for product version description (.PVD) and installation (.INF) script files. Implemented numerous code changes to correct minor problems and add features/enhancements.
  • Updated Lahey FORTRAN MAKE utility files MAKEFILE[.*] for the PREMED and POSTMED programs, and the MULTIMED model FORTRAN code groups.
  • Recompiled and relinked executable task image program files for the MULTIMED model, version 2.00 Beta, and the PREMED and POSTMED programs using Lahey FORTRAN 32-bit, protected mode compiler and Phar-lap linker.
  • Included new executable task image files (*.EXE) and updated run time support programs and files (.WDM, *.DB, *.DAT, .BAT, *.IN, *.DBF).
  • Included new test output data files within the OUTPUT sub-directory to test the installation of the MULTIMED model.
  • Included interactive tutorial session command (macro) files (*.LOG) to test the execution of the PREMED and POSTMED programs.
  • Modified and updated the following MULTIMED run time support programs and files:
    • MENU.BAT.......MULTIMED model system command menu display program
    • MULTIMED.BAT...MULTIMED model execution DOS command file
    • PREMED.BAT.....PREMED program execution DOS command file
    • POSTMED.BAT....POSTMED program execution DOS command file
    • MMEDOPEN.SCR...MULTIMED model welcome screen file
    • MMEDMENU.TXT...MULTIMED model system command menu file
  • Application revisions to MULTIMED version 2.00 Beta are included in the MULTIMED model user application manual "A Subtitle D Landfill Application Manual for the Multimedia Exposure Assessment Model (MULTIMED 2.0)", section 1.1.3 "Revisions in MULTIMED Version 2.0". Section 1.1.3 is included in the WordPerfect file SEC-1.WP6 under the DOCUMENT\APPLY sub-directory.

Version: 2.00 Beta

Corrections & Improvements to Prior Versions

  • Updated and modified files RELEASE.TXT, UPDATE.TXT, and READ.ME.
  • Composed new INSTALIT/MediaBuilder code and logic.
  • Compiled and linked MULTIMED model, PREMED pre-processor program, and POSTMED post-processor program using Lahey FORTRAN 32-bit, protected mode compiler, Phar-lap linker, and Interacter graphics libraries.
  • Eliminated the need for GKS/GSS external graphics and device driver support in order to display and/or print graphs produced by POSTMED program.
  • Included new executable task image files (*.EXE) and all updated run time support programs and files to include FORTRAN source code for the MULTIMED model system version 2.00 Beta to include model, pre- and post-processor programs.
  • Implemented numerous FORTRAN source code changes to correct minor problems that occurred during program and/or model execution.
  • Included latest version of theory and application manuals as WordPerfect document files.
  • Nonlinear Adsorption: Added capability to simulate transport through the unsaturated zone of chemicals that do not adsorb to the solid phase in a linear manner.
  • Initial contamination conditions: Added capability to simulate the transport of chemicals that have already migrated out of the waste source and are present as soil contamination in the unsaturated zone.
  • Time-varying infiltration rates: Added capability to simulate leaching of chemicals from a waste source whose water infiltration rates vary with time.
  • Volatilization of chemicals from the unsaturated zone: Added capability to simulate the vertical transport of chemicals in the unsaturated zone by both infiltration within the water phase and diffusion within the vapor phase.
  • In order to accommodate both the numerical and the analytical unsaturated zone transport models and the new model capabilities, the model input requirements and the model source code were modified. The code modifications were made to minimize the changes to the input data and the source code. However, there is one exception in the revision of the input data in the unsaturated zone analytical model. Data are now input by material property rather than by layer. Thus, an input file used with version 1.01 must be slightly modified in the unsaturated zone to execute under version 2.00 (Beta test).
  • All FORTRAN source code files from version 1.01 were utilized to construct version 2.00 (Beta test). No sub-programs (SUBROUTINE or FUNCTION) from version 1.01 of the source code were deleted. Version 2.00 (Beta test) has all of the capabilities of the original release of version 1.01. Version 2.00 (Beta test) contains additional source code for simulating the unsaturated zone and also includes a numerical unsaturated zone transport module.

Version: 1.01
