CPRG Tools and Technical Assistance - GHG Reduction Measures - Resources and Tools
The EPA has many resources and tools to help evaluate and identify greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures and quantify the GHG emission reductions (and enhanced carbon sequestration) from these measures. These include the EPA’s Energy Resources for State, Local, and Tribal Governments, which includes free tools, data, and technical expertise about energy strategies to help state, local, and tribal governments achieve their environmental, energy, and economic objectives.
As discussed in the Planning Program Guidance, selection of GHG reduction measures should focus on achieving the most significant GHG reductions possible, while considering other relevant planning goals. The measures can cover GHG reductions in any GHG emission (and sinks) sectors, including transportation, electricity generation and use, commercial and residential buildings, industry, agriculture, waste and materials management, and land use.
There are many policy and technical approaches that state, local, and tribal governments could adopt to reduce GHG emissions and enhance carbon sinks. This summary does not attempt to provide an exhaustive list of potential policies and measures for reducing GHG emissions, but instead provides a sampling of resources that may be helpful as applicants are considering GHG reduction measures and quantifying their anticipated impact for their Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) and Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP).
This summary is organized in two areas of focus:
-
Resources and tools to assist with the evaluation and selection of GHG reduction measures
- Resources and tools to assist with the quantification of GHG emission reductions related to selected GHG reduction measures
EPA will continue to provide updates with additional resources and tools where useful.
