Selected Application Summary

The selected application will fund priority measures of the Nez Perce Tribe aimed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across multiple sectors, focusing on residential energy efficiency retrofits, renewable energy, and electric vehicle transportation networks. The identified priority measures will enable investment in decentralized power systems to support greater community resilience as well as climate-ready housing that will protect Nez Perce communities in Oregon and Idaho.

Key Things to Know

Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:

  • Conduct energy audits and install energy efficiency and weatherization upgrades in 650 homes and replace wood stove replacements in 350 homes on Tribal land.
  • Install solar power infrastructure at Tribal facilities and residences, improving the resilience of Tribal facilities in response to emergency events such as floods, wildfires, high winds, and landslides.
  • Improve residential environment on the Nez Perce reservation by creating clean and resilient climate-ready homes that combat smoke and weather damage.
  • Develop locally distributed renewable energy infrastructure at Tribal facilities and residences to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and increase energy efficiency on the reservation.
  • Provide on-the-job training for the Tribal workforce and create well-paid jobs in a disadvantaged, rural community.

Activities in the selected application reflect measures in Nez Perce Tribe’s Priority Climate Action Plan (pdf) (9.1 MB).

1  The emission reduction estimates, as well as the descriptions of measures and benefits, were summarized from information provided by the applicant. These estimates, along with the award amount, are subject to change.

EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of July 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
