Selected Application Summary
The selected application will support the state of California and the municipal statistical areas of Los Angeles, Long Beach-Anaheim, Riverside-San Bernadino-Ontario to decarbonize the Southern California goods movement corridor. The grant will fund four measures to incentivize projects, aligned with the National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy, via initiatives such as installing electric vehicle charging, increasing zero-emission freight vehicles, and electrifying equipment and diesel freight switcher locomotives in the region.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce greenhouse gases and support communities 1:
- Install over 1,000 medium and heavy-duty vehicle chargers and deploy 800 medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles and 18 electric locomotives.
- Reduce air pollutants from diesel emissions in low-income and disadvantaged communities.
- Create an estimated 470 high-quality jobs in California and 4,700 across the nation, with an additional 43,500 new jobs expected as the infrastructure becomes fully utilized.
- Support an apprenticeship pipeline that will open pathways into high-quality union careers.
- Educate communities about electric vehicles to accelerate their deployment.
- Build resilience in the freight sector by modernizing vehicles and developing a skilled workforce to be better prepared for potential future world events.

EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of July 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
