Selected Application Summary
The selected application will implement five greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures across the buildings, electric power, transportation, and waste management sectors. The selected application will install solar arrays in a new community solar garden, retrofit residential buildings to promote energy efficiency through weatherization and electrification, support the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) for use by the Tribal Health Transportation Program, install EV charging stations, build a hazardous waste drop-off center, distribute recycling bins to the Tribal community, and implement geothermal technology for heat pumps in shelters and Tribally owned buildings. The project activities will increase the use of renewable energy, improve the climate resiliency of Tribal housing, support clean transportation and EV infrastructure, and expand waste-prevention and recycling practices in the community.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:
- Generate approximately 1 megawatt of renewable solar energy.
- Advance clean transportation and EV infrastructure with the purchase of 3 EVs and installation of 12 EV charging stations.
- Reduce waste management burdens and costs by building a hazardous waste drop-off center and distributing recycling bins to 1,000 households in the Tribal community.
- Decrease the use of heating fuels by installing geothermal heat pumps at 10 shelters and Tribally owned buildings.
- Lower energy bills and reduce GHG emissions by installing energy efficient appliances and lighting in Tribal residences.

EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of August 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
