Report to Congress on the Global Supply and Trade of Elemental Mercury

As requested by Congress, this report assembles available information on the global supply and trade of mercury, including both primary mercury mining as well as mercury that has been recovered from a wide variety of sources and redistilled to a high level of purity. The report then examines the best estimates available to EPA for the supply, demand, and trade of mercury, including estimates of the volume of mercury currently being mined and traded globally, indicates to the best of our knowledge where such mining is occurring, and identifies relevant factors related to primary mining at the global level after the effective date of the Mercury Export Ban Act of 2008.
