EPA to review cleanup at Boeing Electronics Manufacturing Facility site in Seattle

Summary

EPA has begun its first review of the environmental cleanup at the Boeing Electronics Manufacturing Facility (EMF) site located at 7755 East Marginal Way in Seattle, Washington.

As long as contaminants remain on site, this cleanup action must be reviewed every five years to ensure ongoing protection of human health and the environment.

The groundwater beneath the site was contaminated with trichloroethene (TCE), which breaks down to vinyl chloride and other chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Groundwater treatment pilot testing started in 1997 and continues today. Boeing continues to implement enhanced reductive dechlorination to treat solvents in groundwater.
