Water Contaminant Information Tool (WCIT)
The Water Contamination Information Tool (WCIT) will be archived and no longer available after January 30, 2026, and is no longer accepting new users. Due to declining usage and the cost of maintaining the secure online portal, we are transitioning away from WCIT. We are evaluating other forums for sharing the information within WCIT and will share plans when they are final.
In the interim, we encourage users to explore EPA's Environmental Sampling and Analysis Methods (ESAM) Program for information on contaminants. The ESAM program offers resources and tools to support sampling and analysis decision-making.
If you need technical support for water contamination, please visit EPA's Contamination Preparedness and Response webpage or contact us at OWERC-Outreach@epa.gov.
Basic Information
The Water Contaminant Information Tool (WCIT) is used by the water sector to prepare for, respond to or recover from drinking water and wastewater contamination incidents. WCIT includes comprehensive information about contaminants that could be introduced into a water system following a natural disaster, vandalism, accident or act or terrorism. There are currently over 800 priority contaminants of concern listed in WCIT.
