US-Canada Air Quality Agreement (AQA) Notification Table
In 1991, the U.S. and Canada entered into the U.S.-Canada Air Quality Agreement to address transboundary air pollution that can affect public health and the environment in both countries. The original Agreement focused on SO2 and NOx emissions reduction programs to address acid rain in the 1990’s. In 2000, an Ozone Annex was added to the Agreement to address reductions in NOx and VOC emissions to address transboundary smog.
Each country also agreed to notify the other country regarding any planned new or modified industrial sources of emissions that would be located within 100 kilometers of the border. The table below includes summaries of current and past notifications under the Agreement of planned new or modified facilities located in the U.S. Notifications of new or modified facilities located in Canada are found here.
