RadNet Near-Real-Time Air Data

The nationwide RadNet system monitors the nation's air to track radiation in the environment. Over time, RadNet sample testing and monitoring results show the fluctuations in normal background levels of environmental radiation. The RadNet system will also detect higher than normal radiation levels during a radiological incident. See the dashboard below to view measurements of gamma radiation in near-real-time.

RadNet Dashboard

RadNet has 140 radiation air monitors in 50 states and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can view measurements of gamma radiation in near-real-time.  Use the Dashboard below to select the monitoring location. You can also export hourly near-real-time gamma radiation data.

About the Near-Real-Time Air Data

  • All RadNet stations measure gamma radiation emitted from airborne radioactive particles as they collect on the monitor's filter. You can view these results on the "Gamma Gross Count Rate" graph.
  • Some RadNet monitors also measure exposure rate, which indicates the level of gamma radiation in the vicinity of the monitor. You can view graphs of these results both as Gamma Exposure (EXP) Rate and as converted to Dose Equivalent Rate. To learn about typical dose rates, see About Exposures and Dose Rates. (Note: EPA is adding Gamma Exposure Rate capability to all stations as monitors undergo repair. All monitoring stations will eventually have Gamma Exposure Rate measurement.)
  • EPA posts monitoring results after checking to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • There may be gaps in the data due to telecommunication disruption, server unavailability, instrument maintenance/repairs, or other technical issues.
  • Data are reported in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). View official U.S. time and other time zones or convert to your local time on the RadNet CSV File Download webpage.
  • View frequent questions about the RadNet monitoring program.
