EPA Use of VCS and other Private Sector Standards

EPA uses VCS and other private sector standards in regulation, procurement, voluntary programs, research, policies and other activities.  As of 2015, EPA’s regulations contained over 4500 references to VCS and other private sector standards.  

Following are examples of EPA’s participation in and use of VCS and other private sector standards, as reported in EPA’s annual reporting as required by the NTTAA:

  • Using Standards to Assess Greenhouse Gases from Transportation
  • Using Standards for Lead Paint Analysis to Prevent Lead Exposure
  • Using Standards to Protect Building Occupants from Wildfire Smoke
  • Using Standards to Improve Disinfectant Efficacy Testing
  • Using Standards to Facilitate the Safe Integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into National Airspace
