Coal Mine Methane (CMM) Recovery Opportunities Map
Coal Mine Methane Recovery at Active and Abandoned U.S. Coal Mines: Current Projects and Potential Opportunities
This map and accompanying matrix provide information about current projects and potential opportunities to develop coal mine methane (CMM) recovery and utilization projects at active U.S. coal mines. Mine data reported in both the map and the accompanying Coal Mine Methane Recovery at Active and Abandoned U.S. Coal Mines: Current Projects and Potential Opportunities (May 2017) matrix was updated in May 2017 to reflect the 2014 production year.*
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) designed the profiles to help project developers perform an initial screening of potential projects. A detailed evaluation would need to be done on a site-specific basis to determine whether the development of a specific methane recovery and use project is both technically and economically feasible.
*NOTE: Data was derived from publicly-available sources and has not been verified by CMOP or the mine.
