Enforcement Data and Results

EPA's enforcement and compliance assurance program uses data in many areas, including managing the program and assessing performance. This page offers links to online data sources, as well as information about reports and data systems.

Civil and Cleanup Enforcement Cases and Settlements - Listing of significant civil and cleanup cases and settlements from 1998. The listing can be filtered by environmental statute or date.

Criminal Cases Search - The Summary of Criminal Prosecutions, resulting from environmental investigations, provides information on concluded criminal enforcement cases, by the U.S. government's fiscal year (October to September).

Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) - ECHO provides fast, integrated searches of EPA and state data for more than 800,000 regulated facilities. ECHO focuses on inspection, violation, and enforcement data for the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and also includes Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) data.

Envirofacts - Envirofacts provides data from across the EPA programs.

Enforcement Annual Results - At the end of each fiscal year, EPA announces the results of compliance assurance and enforcement activities.

National Enforcement Initiatives - Every three years, EPA sets national enforcement initiatives to focus civil and criminal enforcement resources and expertise on serious pollution problems affecting communities. See our progress made under each of the initiatives.

State Review Framework - Includes information and reports from the State Review Framework (SRF) program, which consistently assesses EPA and state enforcement of the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and hazardous waste laws.

EJScreen - Mapping tool focused on environmental justice that allows users to create maps and generate detailed reports based on the geographic areas and selected data sets.
