Selected Application Summary
The selected application will transition fleet vehicles owned by the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians and the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians to comparable battery-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles and include the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for Tribal enterprise vehicles and the public. Solar systems with battery electric storage microgrids will be installed at essential Tribal buildings, the San Pasqual Band Horizon Fuel Center, and several hundred Tribal residences. In addition, efficient air-source heat pump systems and heat pump water heaters will be installed at several hundred Tribal residences.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:
- Build solar photovoltaic systems ranging from 2 kilowatts to 6 kilowatts paired with battery energy storage systems at 497 Tribal residences.
- Install air-source heat pump mini-split heating and cooling systems at up to 630 Tribal residences, including air-source heat pump hot water heaters.
- Install three dual port direct current EV chargers and seven dual port Level 2 EV chargers.
- Replace 16 fleet vehicles with comparable electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.
- Adopt requirements specifying that all new homes built on the Tribal reservations be Energy Star®-certified homes.
- Improve air quality and resilience to climate change, provide access to alternate transportation options, and decrease energy and utility costs.
