Next Generation Compliance
Next Generation Compliance utilizes new tools, approaches and technology to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws. Promotion and use of advanced technology can help regulated entities, the government and the public more easily monitor pollutant discharges, environmental conditions and noncompliance.
Monitoring technology is becoming smaller, faster, better and cheaper. EPA conducts leading-edge research and sound use of science and technology. Advances in fenceline and near-road technologies are inventive examples of this new measurement technology. The National Environmental Monitoring Conference offers a Technology Showcase to display these new technologies.

Water Science and Technology
EPA's Office of Water helps to ensure that the latest water pollution science and best available control technologies support our program goals to keep water safe and clean.
Low-cost environmental sensors are making it easier for everyday individuals to monitor their local environment and become citizen scientists. Outreach, tools and opportunities to learn more about available low-cost sensors are key to educating everyone about the information now available.
