MOVES5 Update Log

This page provides a chronological listing of updates to MOVES5, EPA’s Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator.

On this page:
  • MOVES5.0.1
  • MOVES5.0.0
  • Prior versions of MOVES

Modelers using MOVES5 may use any version below. MOVES5.0.1 is more recent and incorporates the changes made in MOVES5.0.0. All versions of MOVES5 are available for download at the MOVES GitHub Releases page. Additional information on MOVES5.

October 2025
MOVES5.0.1

MOVES5.0.1 is a patch to MOVES5. It does not change emission rates in MOVES5. For more information, see the Latest Version of MOVES page.

MOVES5.0.1 includes the following improvements and repairs:

  • In Windows, this version prevents your computer from going to sleep during runtime, even if the workstation is locked.
  • We removed the AVFT Tool shortcut button from the Nonroad database manager; the Nonroad model does not use the AVFT table.
  • MOVES5.0.1 does not trigger a Windows Firewall popup asking if Java should have access to your network. Since MOVES does not communicate over networks, this popup is unnecessary and confusing.
  • We have provided more complete instructions for the ScenarioID field used in Emission Rates mode.
  • The Summary Reporter now correctly calculates daily inventories regardless of the order that monthID and dayID are selected. (In previous versions, users must select dayID before monthID.)
  • We fixed a “go deadlock” error that caused a run to fail on rare occasions (typically only seen when performing a large number of runs on very fast computers).
  • MOVES5.0.1 calculates correct hotelling emissions for APU and shorepower processes when running on Linux.
  • MOVES5.0.1 improves automatic road type selection based on selections made on the Pollutants and Processes Panel and displays an error message on the Road Type panel if RunSpecs with missing road types are loaded. (When running with only certain hotelling and/or evaporative emission processes, MOVES5.0.0 does not automatically select or indicate missing road types.)
  • The back-of-the-envelope EmissionRates.sql post-processing script has been fixed. (In certain situations, the MOVES5.0.0 version fails with a NULL value error.)
  • We fixed a scaling issue for the AVFT tool window on small screens.

For additional technical details on the MOVES5.0.1 changes, see the MOVES5.0.1 milestone on the MOVES GitHub site.

November 2024
MOVES5.0.0

MOVES5.0.0 is the initial release of MOVES5, a major update to the MOVES series of mobile source emission models. For more information, see the Latest Version of MOVES page.
