Volume 3b - Area Source Method Abstracts

This document provides technical documentation of nonpoint (area) source emissions estimation as a part of the ten volumes of the Emissions Inventory Improvement Program (EIIP) materials. These volumes provide standard procedures for calculating air emissions data with targeted quality objectives using cost effective approaches, but in some cases have become outdated.

“Volume 3b – Area Source Method Abstracts” provides a reference for seven additional categories that are not covered in Volumes 3 or 3a. These abstracts are less extensive than the chapters included in the main Volume, but provide a concise reference for asphalt roofing kettles, bakeries, remediation of leaking underground storage tanks, vehicle fires, and residential and commercial/institutional combustion of coal, fuel oil, kerosene, natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas.

  • Asphalt Roofing Kettles (pdf) (15.91 KB, September 30, 2000)
Covers the installation and repair of asphalt roofs on commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Bakeries (pdf) (26.22 KB, June 21, 1999)
Covers volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions from yeast leavening of baked goods at commercial and retail bakeries.
  • Remediation of Leaking Underground Storage Tanks (UST) (pdf) (84.01 KB, May 2001)
This emission estimation guidance addresses VOC air emissions from the remediation of leaking underground storage tanks.
  • Residential and Commercial/Institutional Coal Combustion (pdf) (35.19 KB, April 6, 1999)
This source category covers air emissions from coal combustion in the residential and commercial sectors for space heating or water heating.
  • Residential and Commercial/Institutional Fuel Oil and Kerosene Combustion (pdf) (35.29 KB, April 6, 1999)
This guidance covers air emissions from the combustion of distillate fuel oils and kerosene by the residential and commercial/institutional sectors for space heating or water heating.
  • Residential and Commercial/Institutional Natural Gas and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LGP) Combustion (pdf) (35.86 KB, April 6, 1999)
Category covers air emissions from natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combustion in the residential and commercial sectors for space heating, water heating, or cooking.
  • Vehicle Fires (pdf) (12.69 KB, May 15, 2000)
This guidance report covers air emissions from accidental vehicle fires.
