EPA's January 17, 2025, Final Outer Continental Shelf Air Permit for the SouthCoast Wind Project

On January 17, 2025, EPA issued the final permit for the proposed construction and operation of SouthCoast Wind, LLC's offshore windfarm on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The EPA considered all public comments submitted during the public comment period in its final decision-making process. EPA has prepared a Response to Comments document to describe and address any significant issues raised during the comment period, and to describe the provisions of the draft permit that have been changed and the reasons for the changes.

EPA's November 15, 2024, Draft Outer Continental Shelf Air Permit for the SouthCoast Wind Project

On November 23, 2022, SouthCoast Wind Energy, LLC submitted to EPA Region 1 (EPA) an initial application requesting a Clean Air Act (CAA) permit under Section 328 of the CAA for the construction and operation of an offshore wind farm, including export cables, on the outer continental shelf. Once operational, the project has an estimated maximum production capacity of 2,400 megawatts of renewable energy. On January 13, 2023, EPA received a revised OCS air permit application, which replaced the initial application. EPA also received supplemental information thereafter. EPA determined the application to be administratively complete on April 07, 2023. The EPA is proposing a draft permit that will contain the applicable requirements under 40 C.F.R. part 55.
