EPA comments on Clean Air Act Draft Modification to Approval Order for the Weir Minerals Facility in Utah
Summary
On December 6, 2022, the EPA commented on the Intent to Approve to modify Approval Order DAQE-AN10550006-18, proposed by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ). This permit action seeks to approve the construction of an additional coating process at the existing Weir Minerals facility, located at 3459 South 700 West Salt Lake City, Utah, 84119. The EPA's comments focus on the accuracy of emissions estimates for the permit modification, the applicability of 40 CFR part 63, subpart MMMM: National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Surface Coating of Miscellaneous Metal Parts and Products (40 CFR 63.3880), and the consideration of potential environmental justice and civil rights concerns in the permitting process.
The EPA submitted these comments during the November 6, 2022, through December 6, 2022, public comment period for the Weir Minerals Intent to Approve. The EPA's comments do not reflect a denial of the Weir Minerals Intent to Approve and the EPA looks forward to UDEQ's response to these concerns.
