Small Drinking Water Systems Webinar Series
Free drinking water-focused webinars typically held on the last Tuesday of the month from 2:00-3:00 pm ET with an optional Q&A session from 3:00-3:30 pm ET.
EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) and Office of Water (OW) host this webinar series to communicate the latest information on solutions for challenges facing small drinking water systems. This forum allows EPA to communicate directly with the states to provide training and foster collaboration and dissemination of information. This, in turn, provides states with information and resources needed to communicate the latest scientific advancements and current guidance to their small systems. It also provides an opportunity for states to share information with each other.

Presentation 1: Flood Resilience for Small Water and Wastewater Systems. This presentation will provide information that can help small utilities evaluate the flooding threat, identify vulnerable assets and consequences, and select effective mitigation strategies and financing options. (Presentation by David Goldbloom-Helzner, EPA's OW)
Presentation 2: Seasonal Noncommunity Water Systems—Regulatory Challenges, Requirements, and Case Studies from Minnesota. Seasonal groundwater systems and surface water systems are two types of noncommunity public water systems that face certain challenges based on their increased risk to the drinking water supply, and therefore have additional rule requirements. This presentation will focus on these challenges and requirements and will also provide example case studies. (Presentation by Nate Karp, Eric Freihammer, Ernie Jorgensen, Minnesota Department of Health)
About the Presenters
David Goldbloom-Helzner. David has 33 years of experience in helping critical infrastructures prepare for and respond to disasters. For the last 12 years, he has been with EPA’s Office of Water, Water Security Division developing tools to help water and wastewater utilities become more resilient to flooding and other natural disasters, to apply for federal disaster funding, and to be trained in the incident command system.
Nate Harp. Nate is an engineer with the Minnesota Department of Health specializing in surface water treatment processes for noncommunity public water systems. His roles include conducting sanitary surveys, responding to contamination events, and reviewing water system construction plans. He has bachelor degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.
Eric Freihammer. Eric is a registered environmental health sanitarian with the Minnesota Department of Health, Drinking Water Protection section, Noncommunity Public Water Supply Unit. He is also a licensed water and wastewater operator. Eric received his B.S. in environmental studies from St. Cloud State University. He has also studied abroad at Southern Cross University in Australia and holds an A.A.S in water environment technology.
Ernie Jorgensen. Ernie a public health sanitarian the Minnesota Department of Health, Drinking Water Protection section, Noncommunity Public Water Supply Unit. He holds a B.S. in geoscience from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and an A.A.S in water quality science and in watershed sciences from Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minnesota.
