Funded Research

Congress has appropriated funding to the Southeast New England Program since 2014 to carry out the SNEP mission. As of 2020, we have funded a total of 119 projects aimed at restoring and protecting the region's water-based environment and building strong partnerships, which are now in place to continue work in the future. Congress directed EPA to facilitate development of strategies to restore and protect the southern New England estuaries and most of the funding has been dedicated to improving water quality. The program has also supported habitat improvement, enhanced resilience, monitoring and local capacity building.

Another major focus of the SNEP is to fund and support research to further our understanding of environmental challenges, as well as how best to implement solutions to address those challenges. The following pages link out to further information on many of these past and current projects:
